This afternoon Caterpillar class had their weekly English Lesson. As the first lesson of the month we started learning some words from a new topic. This month's topic is 'Animals', and today we learned four animals 'dog', 'cat', 'bird' and 'mouse' (the children were delighted to find out that the surname of one of their favourite characters was in fact the name of a certain animal!) We also learnt the word 'house' to allow us to sing a song about the different animals you might find in your house. After the class learnt the words and the gestures to the song they fell in love with it, and kept asking to sing it again and again. So after singing the song four times (!) we started our activity. Pictures of various breeds of dog, cat, bird and mouse were scattered around the room, and the children were asked to find a specific animal. Not only was this a fun game, and an enjoyable way to recap the English vocabulary, but it also allows the students to practice arranging pictures into groups and identifying consistent characteristics of different objects. After children of each age group successfully found each of the breeds of animal we looked at the pictures and had lots of high-fives to finish off the lesson.

Meanwhile Butterfly class had their monthly Math Lesson. Today's lesson involved arranging objects in order of largest to smallest, oldest to youngest, etc, and what better objects to put in order than the students themselves? So the children tried arranging themselves in order from tallest to shortest in less than 30 seconds. This involved a lot of discussion between the students and on-the-fly measuring and comparing. Some of the students were surprised to see how tall they were in comparison with their friends! Afterwards the class were asked to arrange themselves in order of birthday. This one took even more discussion (until the older kids realised they could look at the birthday display on the wall) but eventually they got it!
