Everyone at SukuSuku World had a very colourful afternoon! Caterpillar class spent their time playing 'Colour Catch', a game where the teacher says a colour and the class have to go and find something of that colour. Many of the children can now very quickly identify colours by name and understand that different objects belong to the same category if they share a colour.

Meanwhile, Butterfly class played the exact same game(!), but simply as a warm up for their English-lead Science lesson. Today's science lesson was about colour combinations; we started by looking at the colour wheel and noting the difference between primary and secondary colours. Then, we took two cups of water, added food colouring based on the three primary colours (red, yellow and blue) and then put rolled up kitchen towel inside to watch the colours climb up the kitchen towels and into a third cup where they combined to make a new colour! Before we added the kitchen roll we tried guessing what colour they would make, many of the students had very different ideas of what the resulting colour might be. The colours climbed the kitchen towel very slowly so after a while we decided to simply mix the coloured water together. After seeing the results the class became very aware of how the colour wheel can tell us how to mix primary colours!
