This afternoon Caterpillar class had a maths lesson in which they fine-tuned their fine motor skills through a series of exercises. They started by walking with their fingers from one point to another, (a certain bread-headed character to his home, for example) they then tried drawing a line from one image to another, matching two of the same image together. Finally they tried tracing a straight line, a zigzag line and a sine wave. The younger children had some difficulty with the bendy lines but even most of them could trace the straight line with relative ease.

Meanwhile Butterfly class were saying, reading and writing words with 'ee' and 'ea' in them (ear, feet, tree, steam, etc). At the start they were a little confused about the fact that these words are spelt differently but sound so similar. Eventually they came to understand that this is one of the many quirks of the English language, and that reading phonetically can sometimes be very difficult in English. Once we'd played a matching game and practiced writing some of the words, the class had a fuller understanding of these words and how they're written.
